Product: Tempo, also called Tempo MES and Tempo Manufacturing Cloud on Apprentice’s own pages. Separate products in the same portfolio: Tempo LES, Augmented Work Instructions (AWI), Tandem, Connected Manufacturing Network (CMN), Ganymede, and A1 / Apprentice 4.1. Vendor: Apprentice (site brand Apprentice.io). Legal entity on the terms of service and privacy policy: Apprentice FS, Inc., 101 Hudson Street (38th floor per the site footer), Jersey City, NJ 07302. Category: Cloud-native pharma batch execution system that Apprentice sells as an MES. Its public documentation covers batch planning, execution, and release, not plant-wide ISA-95 Level 3 orchestration. Verification date: 2026-10-03. Scope: Public web sources only.
Tempo is a venture-funded, cloud-native batch execution system built for newer modalities, with no-code recipe design, review by exception, and multi-site tech transfer through its Connected Manufacturing Network. Its visible buyers are cell-therapy CDMOs and other pharma manufacturers moving from paper to eBR, and Apprentice now leads its marketing with the A1 AI agent rather than the Tempo name.
1. Overview
The Navigator page “What is Tempo MES?” calls Tempo a fully cloud-native MES “designed exclusively for pharma” that plans, executes, and releases an end-to-end batch, with no-code integrations for equipment and systems. It covers preclinical benchtop through commercial manufacturing, and operators use AR, AI, and voice on wearable, mobile, and desktop devices. (Tempo MES overview, updated 25 Oct 2023.)
The MES package components are Tandem, Procedures, Batches, Exceptions, Locations, Equipment, Materials, and Integrations (“subscription required”).
The Tempo Manufacturing Cloud overview (updated 9 Jan 2025) describes one shared system for manufacturing and lab execution plus collaboration, split into Connected Manufacturing Network, MES, LES, Augmented Work Instructions, and Tandem. Its matrix gives Batches, Parameter Groups, and Scheduling to MES only, samples and plates (arrays) to LES only, and remote collaboration to all four. (Tempo Manufacturing Cloud.)
The marketing site rarely says “Tempo.” The MES page, titled Manufacturing Execution System, describes no-code recipe design, mid-run changes, and go-live in 90 days. The homepage leads with A1, then a Manufacturing Suite that “spans the full ISA-95 stack” (CMN, MES, edge devices, manufacturing intelligence, LES, remote assistance). (Homepage; MES page.)
Separate products:
- Tempo LES is the lab package: test methods, samples, arrays, used alongside MES. (LES overview.)
- AWI covers digital procedures, exceptions, and Tandem, as a first step that scales to MES and LES. (AWI overview.)
- Tandem is video, AR, and headset collaboration, sold alone and also listed inside the MES package. (Tandem overview.)
- CMN is the multi-site layer, announced 20 March 2023 as an addition to Tempo. (Newswire, 20 Mar 2023.)
- Ganymede is an acquired lab-and-process data product (21 January 2026) for instrument, ELN/LIMS, OPC, and historian capture. (Ganymede page; acquisition release.)
- A1 / Apprentice 4.1 is a standalone agent that can also be embedded in the suite. (A1 page.)
- DCS, SCADA, weigh and dispense. An October 2024 boilerplate says Tempo combines MES, DCS, LES, eLogs, and work instructions. The public MES documentation does not describe DCS or SCADA functions. Weigh and dispense is a Tempo Pro feature (November 2023) and a web weighing and dispense workflow in 7.5 (April 2025).

The privacy policy states EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield certification for Apprentice FS, Inc. That is a privacy statement, not a Tempo security control.
3. Pharma and biotech relevance
- Batch execution for drug manufacturing. The MES overview says Tempo serves modern modalities and is “designed exclusively for pharma,” preclinical to commercial. The 4 October 2024 release extends the platform into food and beverage, nutraceuticals and supplements, animal health and feed, and chemicals. (MES overview; Newswire, 4 Oct 2024.)
- Cell and gene. Tempo Pro (November 2023) includes material kits for cell and gene production. Minaris, a CDMO, selected Tempo MES for commercial cell-therapy manufacturing on 6 September 2023 (section 9).
- 21 CFR Part 11 and GMP. The MES page claims “full IQ/OQ validation for cGXP and 21 CFR Part 11,” ISO 27001 and GDPR readiness, and “CSA-ready.” The security page says Apprentice meets cGXP and 21 CFR Part 11 and holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022. The life-sciences page says cGMP and Part 11 controls, electronic signatures, audit trails, and role-based access are built into workflows. None is an FDA or EMA determination, and no certificate numbers are published. (Security page; life sciences.)
- Review by exception appears on the life-sciences page for commercial manufacturing and as an expected outcome in the Minaris announcement.
Vendor counts: “15 of the top 20 US pharma companies use Apprentice” (March 2023, undefined), with 3.4x year-over-year Tempo revenue growth and 218% net customer retention, no method. Who-we-are names Moderna, Catalent, and Gilead as manufacturers that trust the platform, with “over 30 million requests per month,” but names no product, site, or use. The November 2023 boilerplate says Synthego, Bristol Myers Squibb, Minaris, and AmplifyBio “are using Tempo”; only Minaris has a published selection.
Regulator records. On 3 Oct 2026, openFDA returned no 510(k), enforcement, adverse-event, or registration record for Apprentice.io, Apprentice FS, Tempo MES, or Apprentice Tempo. This class of software is generally not a 510(k) product. FDA.gov full-text search and EMA site search could not be queried for these terms. FDA’s web index shows only unrelated “Tempo” products (BioTrace Medical’s Tempo pacing lead, FDA’s TEMPO digital-health pilot, CryoSeal FS, the TEMPO III fluid warmer).

Tempo 7.0 launched at the end of October 2023 with “40+ features,” per the November 2023 release. Its feature list is not published.
5. Architecture and deployment
- Cloud-native, with “access to seamless feature updates.” No cloud region, tenancy model, or hyperscaler is named.
- Access. The web app requires Google Chrome. Passwords need at least eight characters, a number, a capital letter, a symbol, and “cannot be a real word.” MFA uses Google Authenticator with tokens of up to 30 seconds and can be skipped where not required. SSO, once enabled, replaces credentials for the Tempo web app, Tandem iOS, and Tempo iOS; the IdP is not named. (Login article, updated 16 Oct 2025.)
- Security. SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, SSO with “major” providers, quarterly software updates, MFA, permission settings. The trust center gates its PDFs (AI overview, history, integrations, ERP) behind a form.
- Releases. Quarterly, with “only 1 upgrade required per year.” Axendia reports some customers upgrade quarterly.
- Resilience. The homepage calls the infrastructure behind A1 and the suite “fault-tolerant, geographically redundant,” without RPO/RTO.
- Edge devices are paperless instructions with photos, video, and AR overlays, not process control.
Apprentice publishes no database, orchestrator, data-residency region, backup RPO/RTO, security white paper, or tenancy statement.
6. Integrations
| Kind | Fact | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| No-code wizard | Drag-and-drop wizard and templates connect Tempo to applications and shop-floor equipment: automatic data capture, raw-material consumption, maintenance scheduling. | Configuration UI, not a certified driver list |
| Web API | “Fully documented Web API,” event-driven, for sample runs, results, and resources; events include inventory creation, consumption, and transfer. | API reference is not public |
| ERP | Bidirectional master data, material consumption, lots, expiration, and production activity, no ERP vendor named. 7.5: “Batch parameter group integration, enabling smarter ERP-connected workflows.” | A system class, not a named SAP or Oracle connector |
| Logos | Integrations page image filenames: SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Dynamics 365, DeltaV, AVEVA, Ignition, OPC, OPC Router, Boomi, Veeva, Andelyn. Empty alt text. | Logos, not interface documents. Andelyn is not a software connector on the page |
| Named partners | 7.5: Veeva SOPs and external URLs inside execution; Blue Mountain for calibration and equipment status. 7.2 introduced Blue Mountain and Ganymede as partners. | Vendor release text |
| A1 connectors | ERP, MES, QMS, EAM, SCADA, historian, PLCs, IoT, flat files; webhooks, MQTT, OPC-UA. | A1, not Tempo |
| Ganymede capture | OPC, PC files, historians, instruments, ELN/LIMS. | Ganymede, not Tempo |
| System classes | ERP, QMS, equipment historians (life-sciences page); DCS (2024 boilerplate); ERP, QMS, SCADA, historians, PLCs (integrations meta description). | Classes, not connectors |
The partners page invites technology and solution partners and names none. Apprentice publishes no API catalog, SAP IDoc or BAPI list, OPC UA information model for Tempo, or serialization interface.
7. Pricing and commercial model
Pricing is quote-only. Apprentice publishes no list price. Product pages end in “Schedule a Demo,” and https://www.apprentice.io/pricing redirects to the homepage.
- Packages (November 2023). Tempo Digital: paper-to-digital procedures on mobile, desktop, or headset, with exceptions and video assistance. Tempo Core: parameterizable end-to-end batches, equipment, materials, recipe transfer, and sponsor visibility. Tempo Pro: adds enterprise master data, QC teams in the same system, sponsor batch review, cell-and-gene material kits, advanced procedure logic, and weigh and dispense. Apprentice “will offer monthly, user-based pricing,” with no rate. (7.2 release.)
- Docs. The January 2025 overview still sends Digital, Core, and Pro users to
/pricing, which no longer shows a breakdown. - Integrations in the MES package are “subscription required,” fee unstated.
- Free trial. A 30-day self-guided trial launched in September 2024 (October 2024 release). The live
/free-trialpage states no terms. - Pilot terms. The terms of service govern “Pilot Subscriptions” and cap liability at $5,000. (Terms.)
- Funding amounts and customer-page savings ($4 million, $3.5 million, and percentages) are not prices.
Procurement records. On 3 Oct 2026, USAspending listed Apprentice FS Inc as a recipient name with no awards. Keyword hits for “Apprentice” and “Tempo” are unrelated apprenticeship-training and temporary-housing awards. EU TED listed no notice for Apprentice.io, Tempo MES, Apprentice Tempo, or Tempo Manufacturing Cloud. SAM.gov, UK Contracts Finder, and Find a Tender were not searched. (USAspending; SAM.gov search; Contracts Finder; Find a Tender.)
Questions a buyer should ask
- Is the offer still Digital, Core, or Pro, and which November 2023 functions moved into the base?
- What is the license metric: named user, concurrent user, site, or other? The 2023 line was “monthly, user-based.”
- Are Integrations (“subscription required”) inside the user fee?
- Are LES, AWI, Tandem, CMN, Ganymede, and A1 separate SKUs?
- Does the quote include the validation pack and the “IQ/OQ” on the MES page, or is that services?
- Is weigh and dispense the 7.5 web workflow only, and must the buyer already own Blue Mountain or Veeva?
- The web app requires Chrome. Are iOS clients included, and who owns the headsets?
- Where does production data reside, and is the tenant dedicated?
- What does “one upgrade required per year” mean if a site skips a quarterly release?
- Does the $5,000 liability cap apply only to pilots or also to production?
8. Implementation and validation support
Apprentice claims go-live in 90 days or less (MES page and services page), and on the MES page six sites in nine months with group activation. No customer project reports an actual duration.
Services run in four phases: Align (processes, scope, devices), Configure (processes, materials, equipment, training), Validate, and Launch, with Validate and Launch sharing one sentence: go live and hypercare for the first batch. Apprentice provides user guides, tickets, chat, a validation pack, and quarterly releases with one required upgrade a year. No GAMP 5 category, IQ/OQ/PQ contents, day-count breakdown, or rate is published. (Professional services.)
The Minaris announcement says Apprentice’s deployment and GxP validation approach plus no-code configuration beats traditional MES timelines, without a week count. Deployment was to start in 2023 at Allendale, New Jersey, with other North American and Japan sites in 2024.
Apprentice publishes no Computer Software Assurance package, Part 11 assessment report, or statement of who signs the validation summary. “CSA-ready” is a label. The trust center’s ERP sheet, behind a form, calls Tempo “an AI-powered, all-in-one platform.”
9. Customer evidence
| Account | What is public | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Minaris Regenerative Medicine | Outsourced Pharma, 6 Sep 2023, source line Apprentice.io. Minaris selected Tempo MES for commercial manufacturing in North America and Japan. Prakash Manwani, Chief Digital Officer, is quoted on replacing paper for commercial cell therapy. Start: a cell-therapy drug product at Allendale, New Jersey, in 2023; other sites in 2024. Expected review by exception and fewer manual hours. | Selection and plan, not an outcome study |
| Aprecia | Aprecia’s page, 16 Sep 2025 (dateline 9 Sep 2025): Aprecia will implement Apprentice.io’s platform at its Ohio facility for 3D-printed drug production. Angelo Stracquatanio is quoted. | Future tense; does not say Tempo MES |
| Moderna, Catalent, Gilead | Named on who-we-are next to a 30 million requests figure. | No product or use described |
| Synthego, Bristol Myers Squibb, AmplifyBio | November 2023 boilerplate: “using Tempo.” The customers page’s BMS story is about augmented reality during COVID; the BMS page sits behind a bot wall. | Boilerplate |
| CSL | Customers page: “Hands-free thanks to augmented reality at CSL,” an Australian pilot plant replacing paper. The CSL page is not publicly readable. | AR / Tandem-era, not Tempo MES |
| Fox Business (Synthego, Catalent) | Customers page says both discussed Tempo Manufacturing Cloud on Fox Business. The story body is not on the page. | Teaser only |
| Unnamed reviewers | Five-point quotes from a “Technical Specialist”; $4 million, 90.4 percent, $3.5 million, 50 percent, 9,255 hours. | Marketing, no method |
| “15 of the top 20,” Fortune 100 | March 2023 release; 2017 release (AR product). | Undefined sets |
No independent audit of a Tempo batch record is public.
10. Competitive and third-party context
Category. The docs call Tempo an MES that plans, executes, and releases a batch. Marketing goes further: “true next-gen MES,” a suite that spans ISA-95, and a 2024 boilerplate that folds in DCS, LES, eLogs, and work instructions. Those claims are not backed by a shop-floor orchestration specification or a DCS replacement case.
Gartner. The 20 March 2023 release cites “inclusion in Gartner’s Manufacturing Execution System Magic Quadrant,” with no year, document ID, or position.
Tech-Clarity. The 8 November 2023 release quotes Julie Fraser, then VP of Research on Manufacturing and Operations: Tempo “marries the latest enterprise mobile and SaaS technologies with composable applications” and “there’s a SaaS MES — but there is more for the plant, quality lab, enterprise, and manufacturing network.”
Axendia. Sandra Rodriguez, 22 May 2025, briefing note after meeting Stracquatanio, Emilee Cook, Justin Foreman, and Kristen Kucks: a planned 7.6.1 agentic release in late 2025 and quarterly upgrade habits. Not a multi-vendor benchmark. (Axendia.)
IoT Breakthrough. The newsroom lists a 7 January 2026 Smart Manufacturing Innovation Award.
Emilee Cook blog, 21 June 2025. Argues that next-gen MES technology is largely solved, adoption is the hurdle, and the industry has entered an “Agentic MES” phase, citing a BioPhorum progress report. (Blog.)
