Product: BIOVIA ONE Lab LIMS, the LIMS component of the BIOVIA ONE Lab suite, also sold as ONE Lab LIMS Essentials. Siblings: ONE Lab LES and ONE Lab ELN. 2025 license terms use the older name BIOVIA Unified Lab Management (Notebook, Workbook, CISPro). Vendor: Dassault Systèmes, brand BIOVIA (launched 21 May 2014 after the Accelrys acquisition). UK supplier: DASSAULT SYSTEMES UK LIMITED. Category: Laboratory information management system (LIMS) for research, development, and QA/QC labs, sold within a suite that includes ELN and procedure execution. Not an MES, QMS, or manufacturing analytics. Verification date: 2026-10-02. Scope: Public web sources only.
1. Overview
BIOVIA ONE Lab LIMS is Dassault Systèmes' LIMS, sold as one part of a ONE Lab suite that puts LIMS, procedure execution (LES), and ELN on a single data model, with review by exception for batch release. It targets large R&D and QA/QC organizations in life sciences, consumer goods, and energy and materials that want to consolidate several ELNs and LIMS into one platform.
Dassault positions ONE Lab LIMS as a replacement for a traditional LIMS that adds guided procedure execution on the same data. It covers the sample lifecycle, task plans and test orders, instrument data and metrology (preventive maintenance, calibration, verification), chemical inventory, and stepwise procedure execution with automated review by exception for batch release. (ONE Lab LIMS; BIOVIA ONE Lab.) ONE Lab LIMS Essentials is a pre-configured cloud package with those functions from day one and go-live "in as little as 3 months." (Essentials brochure PDF, DS-10058-0824.)
Related but separate:
- BIOVIA Discoverant is manufacturing analytics: data aggregation, investigations, APQR-style reports, process genealogy, statistical monitoring. (Discoverant.)
- ONE Lab ELNs: Scientific Notebook, Workbook, and Notebook, each of which "can integrate directly with BIOVIA ONE Lab." (ONE Lab ELN.)
- ONE Lab LES is Dassault's name for the procedure-execution layer already built into ONE Lab LIMS. (ONE Lab LES.)
- MES, ERP, QMS, and CDS are external. ONE Lab connects to Waters Empower and Thermo Chromeleon, and keeps batch release in the procedure workflow "rather than pushing it downstream into a separate quality management system."
- Unified Lab Management is the name on Dassault's 2025 license terms, which list Notebook, Workbook, and CISPro but not "ONE Lab."
2. Company and product identity
| Point | Fact | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Accelrys acquisition | Accelrys, Inc. (Delaware; San Diego) merged on 29 April 2014 into a subsidiary of Dassault Systemes Americas Corp. under DGCL 251(h), after a 30 January 2014 agreement. USD 12.50 per share; about USD 750 million in total, excluding fees. | Accelrys Form 8-K |
| BIOVIA brand | Launched 21 May 2014 in Vélizy and at Accelrys Accelerate in Washington, D.C.: BioIntelligence plus 3DEXPERIENCE plus Accelrys applications, including "enterprise laboratory and quality management, and process manufacturing intelligence." 3. Pharma and biotech relevance
- GxP. ONE Lab "is built for compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11 and EPA regulations," with automated audit trails, enforced electronic signatures, and data protection. (ONE Lab.) The LIMS page cites adherence to "FDA, GLP, and ISO" through audit trails, electronic signatures, and controlled access. (LIMS page.)
- QA/QC execution. Dassault says ONE Lab is "trusted by the largest scientific companies" to standardize QA/QC testing, with review by exception releasing results that meet pre-set requirements and cutting approval time "by up to 80%." (LES page.)
- Cloud validation. A 22 April 2025 BIOVIA blog by Stephen Hayward calls 3DEXPERIENCE "validation-ready" for GxP. Jason Benedict, BIOVIA CEO and VP of R&D, cites 20 years of GxP work and a "21 CFR Part 11-compliant platform." Validation kits let customers take up to five releases a year. (Blog.)
FDA and EMA web searches on 2 Oct 2026 found no warning letter, Form 483, device clearance, or EMA inspection record naming ONE Lab LIMS. An FDA presentation cites a 2016 BIOVIA CTFile formats document whose Accelrys URL path contains /ulm/onelab/; that is a chemical-file-format reference.

5. Architecture and deployment
ONE Lab runs in the cloud or on-premises from "the same code stream," so customers can move between them. Dassault pitches cloud as lower maintenance and lower total cost of ownership. Applications are web-based. (ONE Lab.) Essentials is a packaged cloud-based offer. (Essentials PDF.)
Under the 2025 Unified Lab Management terms, Oracle software bundled with the licensed programs can be used only with them, and customers cannot call Oracle for support on Oracle licensed through Dassault.
The G-Cloud listing for the related BIOVIA Unified Lab / ScienceCloud service names Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and Internet Explorer 11; Windows 10; Red Hat Linux "n and n-1"; SQL and Oracle; two NVIDIA GPUs; a 99.50% monthly availability target with a time credit of twice the downtime above 0.5%; and ISO/IEC 27001 accredited by SGS (dated 18/01/2022). (G-Cloud.)
Dassault publishes no ONE Lab version number, data-residency regions, RPO/RTO, or LIMS security white paper.
6. Integrations
| Interface | What Dassault documents |
|---|---|
| Waters Empower, Thermo Chromeleon | Bi-directional BIOVIA CDS add-ins. |
| Open API | Open APIs to other lab informatics and enterprise systems. |
| QMS | Batch release stays in procedure execution rather than a separate QMS. |
| Inventory | CISPro, also licensed separately (for example "BIOVIA CISPro Base + 5 CISPro Users"). |
| ELN | Scientific Notebook, Workbook, and Notebook integrate with ONE Lab; the LIMS page describes ONE Lab as merging lab management, procedure execution, materials, and ELNs. |
No SAP or ERP connector is documented.
7. Pricing and commercial model
Pricing is quote-only. Dassault publishes no ONE Lab LIMS price. Product pages invite buyers to "book a quick chat"; Essentials promises results "without breaking the bank."
- Packaging. Buyers pick functional areas and add more later; Essentials is the packaged cloud-based offer.
- License types (2025 Unified Lab Management terms): PLC (one-time perpetual license charge), ALC (annual support and new releases), YLC (yearly), QLC (quarterly), and TBL (term-based, e.g. TBL2). Metrics: named user, casual named user (40 hours a month unless the contract says otherwise), concurrent, system, credit, and site. Amounts sit in the transaction document. (ULM OST.)
- Renewal increases. Dassault's price-revision page (modified 5 December 2025) lists ALC/YLC increases: UK 5.00% on 1 July 2024 and 2.00% on 1 July 2025, with 3.50% planned for 1 July 2026; USA 3.00% on 1 July 2024 and 2.50% on 1 July 2025, with 2.50% planned for 1 July 2026. Distributors set their own renewals. (Price revisions.)
- UK G-Cloud. "Chemical, Materials and Bioscience - BIOVIA" (BIOVIA Unified Lab and ScienceCloud, including an ELN and "predictive analytics") lists at £576 a user a year, with an education discount, a free trial of one week to two months "with access to all solution modules," ADVANTAGE support included, and onsite support and getting-started training extra. This is a different listed service, not a ONE Lab LIMS price. (G-Cloud service.)
Public contract records
USAspending and EU TED searches on 2 Oct 2026 found no award naming ONE Lab LIMS. U.S. BIOVIA awards are Discovery Studio and Materials Studio licenses, bought by the Army, the Air Force, and resellers FOUR LLC, DS GOVERNMENT SOLUTIONS CORP, and Enterprise Technology Solutions; for example W91ZLK22F0068 (USD 24,870.89, BIOVIA Discovery Base and modules, from 2022-05-23) and HT001525K0069 (USD 29,195.89, BIOVIA Discovery Studio, from 2025-09-09). (USAspending.) Horizon "Central One" LIMS, which surfaces in "ONE Lab" searches, is a Horizon Lab Systems product. TED notice 376805-2024 is a LIMS dialogue that does not name Dassault.
Questions a buyer should ask
- Is the quote for ONE Lab LIMS, LIMS Essentials, the ONE Lab suite, or Unified Lab Management SKUs (Notebook, Workbook, CISPro)?
- Which metric: named, 40-hour casual, concurrent, system, credit, or site?
- PLC plus ALC, YLC, TBL, or a cloud charge? Is the £576 G-Cloud service the same product?
- Are the Empower and Chromeleon add-ins, inventory, and a notebook included?
- What does the three-month Essentials target include, and what is billable services?
- Who performs final validation, and is the validation kit priced?
- What renewal increase applies in 2026?
- Where is data hosted, and what availability commitment applies?
8. Implementation and validation support
Dassault "supports computer system validation for ONE Lab, providing validation testing kits." In the cloud it "utilizes automation to perform the initial validation steps, delivering production environments to customers ready for final validation." (ONE Lab.) Essentials adds a "validation-ready" cloud, "proven testing and validation kits," no-code method authoring, and go-live "in as little as 3 months." Dassault publishes no IQ/OQ/PQ set, GAMP category, or Part 11 assessment for ONE Lab LIMS. (Its Discoverant validation kit, with IQ and OQ templates and CSA support, belongs to Discoverant.)
Under G-Cloud: online training at extra cost; onboarding through a knowledge base and community; data export in XML or CSV; access ends with the contract; paid help with data extraction.
9. Customer evidence
| Account | Evidence | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Aboca, Italy | Dassault story: natural-product healthcare company, about 1,400 employees, 24 countries, B Corp, founded 1978 by Valentino Mercati. IT manager Paola Paoloni says experiment data used to be lost across separate tools for data, stock, requests, and reports. Director of IT Alessandro Buzzini says Aboca chose ONE Lab as scalable and compliant with pharmaceutical-industry demands, for R&D and quality and regulatory management. 100% of experiment data is now electronic, equipment is managed in ONE Lab, and the lab is paperless; a PLM "digital thread" is planned. (Aboca story.) | Vendor-written; R&D and materials focus; no go-live date or user count. |
| Unnamed enterprise customer | "Replaced 5 ELNs and 3 LIMS with ONE Lab, standardizing data and increasing scientific efficiency by 60%." | No name or method. |
| Unnamed global biopharma | "Nearly 2,000 scientists and twice as many instruments," previously on "eight different" ELN and LIMS systems. (Teaser.) | Gated use case. |
| Sanofi, Pfizer, GSK, AstraZeneca and others | BIOVIA brand customers in May 2014. | Brand level, not ONE Lab LIMS. |
10. Competitive and third-party context
In May 2014 Dassault quoted Michael Shanler, then Research Director at Gartner, from report G00262297, "Dassault Adds Scientific and Lab Informatics Power with Accelrys," on PLM users gaining exposure to R&D tools. No current Gartner, Forrester, IDC, or Everest evaluation of ONE Lab LIMS is cited. The UK G-Cloud listing is the main non-vendor record.
Dassault sells ELN, LIMS, and LES as one data model, while its 2025 license terms still itemize Notebook, Workbook, and CISPro.
